Princes House in North Street, Brighton originally built in 1937 has now been transformed into apartments in a private residential development by the Baron Homes Corporation. The large scale redevelopment of the building involved the replacement of windows, with Crittall Windows supplying its W20 steel profiles for the project. Brighton and Hove Conservation department was deeply involved in the design of the redevelopment, and as the building is Grade II listed, regulations were strict on the window specification.

A like-for-like policy was enforced by the planning department, and classic W20 profiles from the Crittall range were selected as the most suitable option. These were polyester powder coated in a light blue finish, exactly replicating the appearance of the original Crittall steel frames.

W20 profiles are manufactured from the highest grade steel and offer versatility, visual appeal and strength. They are used extensively in period restoration where like-for-like is required, and combine authentic architectural appearance with modern strength and durability. The narrow sightlines of the profiles are unobtrusive, and do not compromise or detract from the presence of the building itself. As with the original specification, the frames are strong enough to support the architectural style of the era when large and heavy brickwork was popular.
