Clifton Court in Islington, London N4 is managed by Homes for Islington, the arms-length management organization that manages Islington Council's rented and leasehold housing stock. As part of a substantial refurbishment programme to improve the 18-storey tower block, Crittall Windows has supplied profiles from its Homelight L range of steel windows for a full replacement of the existing windows - the first replacement window scheme since the tower block was erected.
Homelight windows remain the same in sizes and styles to the original imperial range, but are upgraded to meet current legislative requirements. Double glazed, they are hot-dipped galvanized against corrosion. All are weather-stripped, and available double glazed and polyester powder coated. Security is a characteristic of steel windows due to the strength of steel, which was also an important issue for the installation.
Because Homelight L windows have very slender sight lines, they provide a light and airy appearance, maximizing the ingress of natural daylight, as well as allowing the incorporation of larger areas of glass. Ideal for new-build and refurbishment, residential and commercial, they offer a U-value of 2.2W/m¦K and have the capability of accepting a 24mm double glazed unit.
The refurbishment also consisted of repairs to the fabric of the building, including concrete and brickwork, and is part of Homes for Islington's long-term plan to overhaul all social housing stock by 2010, fitting in with the Government's Decent Homes Standard. The work was carried out by refurbishment specialists, Eugena Ltd, who have worked on numerous properties for Homes for Islington.
