Basic Use:
Optimum has been providing Cold Rolled Steel Windows
with great success due to it’s cost, performance, and
reliability to commercial and residential installations
worldwide.
Frame:
All principal cold rolled frame members are ASTM A528
low carbon steel, formed from a minimum of 20 gage
steel, with a depth not less than 1 7/8” (48mm) with
reinforced mitered corners. Corner joints are fully
sealed to prevent water leakage and are then mechanically
fastened. Muntins, when required, are formed “T” sections
that are mechanically fastened to the perimeter frame.
Intersections are crossed notched.
Glazing:
Windows are designed for inside glazing of specified
type. Approved glass is held in a *” (19mm) uniform
edge bite. Fire Rated windows are factory glazed with
rated glazing such as polished or obscure wire glass.
Individual glass lites are not to exceed 895sq in.
as per UL requirements.
Weather stripping:
Operating ventilators have factory applied EPDM gaskets
around the entire perimeter.
Hardware:
Operating vents are on supported on stainless steel
arms. The overall size of the window dictates the type
and quantity of sweep locks. (verify with the Optimum
engineering department)
All vents on fire rated windows are designed with
self-closing hardware that is activated via a fusible
link during the course of a fire.
Grades:
Cold rolled steel windows are categorized as either
commercial or industrial windows.

Finishes:
All cold rolled steel sections receive zinc coatings
throughout as per ASTM A525 Z200, applied by a continuous
hot dipped process (the Sendzmir system), followed
by a skin pass (smoothing procedure) which eliminates
roughness.
Coating thickness:
Primer consists of thermosetting epoxy- ureic paint,
at a thickness of 5 microns. A finish coat of polyester
powder coating is baked on at 180 to 200 degrees C
for 15-20 minutes with an average thickness of 80 microns.
Colors:
Windows are offered in two stock colors Brown and
White as a standard. All windows can be painted in
a wide range of custom colors to suite project needs,
as an option.

and tolerances shown on approved shop drawings.
Conditions:
which can adversely affect the window installation
must be corrected before installation begins.
Methods:
Install windows in openings in strict accordance with
approved shop drawings. Set window frames level, plumb
and square without distortion. Anchor units securely
to surrounding construction with approved fasteners.
Caulk and flash in accordance with good window installation
practice. Exterior window joints between window and
masonry should be sealed watertight with an approved
sealant . Window installer should leave the window
surfaces clean after installation.
