Midway Farm Project

Although Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Kelly III spend a greater part of the year in a town house at Fifth Avenue and Ninety-Third Street; New York, their true passion resides at Midway Farm in Albemarle County, Virginia.  Once the inspired couple broke the ice on their grandiose renovation of their Midway Residence, nothing seemed to fit their classic twist on a contemporary renovation better than five beautiful bronze arch top French doors.  After learning that the couple also requested that the doors be thermally broken, Robert Paxton, of Dalglish Gilpin Paxton Architects, enlisted the expertise of Domenick Siano and Bill Polinsky, Owners of Steel Windows and Doors USA, hoping that together they could provide the couple with a door system that will meet their efficiency requirements while enhancing the magnificent contour and breathtaking appeal of this one-of-a-kind home.

Focused on providing the client with the utmost satisfaction, Domenick and Bill agreed that their Bronze OS2 Thermo series doors would be ideal for this custom build based on its very narrow, 30 mm visible sightlines and naturally strong and long-lasting burnished finish. Additionally, the OS2 Thermo series doors would be made up of true divided lights constructed from thermally broken bronze sections which will yield incredibly high thermal efficiency thus providing maximum U-value. Understanding that the couple sought to maintain as much viewing area as possible while sustaining a minimal amount of energy transference, Robert Paxton agreed that this option was indeed the best route and fitment for the home. On February 4th 2011 the Kelly’s, with much ease and satisfaction, accepted Roberts’s proposal and anxiously awaited their custom doors.

After installation had been completed and the last screw had been set, this once standard classic style home was transformed into an awe-inspiring masterpiece which provided the couple with a custom setting design to meet every last need and desire portrayed in what the Kelly’s deemed a “dream” home. Catching word that the clients had fallen head-over-heels for their now finished home, Bill; Owner of Steel Windows and Doors USA, said “It’s the quality of the product that matters. Sure we could have suggested an aluminum door option with a Bronze cladding but would that of truly enhanced the classic brick style of the home or maintained its structural or visual characteristics over years of weathering, no.  We stand by the unmatched quality of our steel products because we understand that at the end of the day, it’s the client who has to live with them.”

If you are considering renovating your home or eagerly trying to increase the thermal efficiency of your space, let Steel Windows and Doors USA help you along the way.
