KANSAS ESTATE REVIVAL

Posted By on Friday, October 14th, 2016 in News,Windows and Doors

Set back from the road is a large hidden gem to adore. In the small town of Mission Hills, Kansas lies a nationally registered historic estate built on over seven acres of land. Historically named the Horn-Vincent-Russell Estate, the manor of English Tudor Revival style with a French Norman touch, was originally constructed from 1929 to 1931 by architect Edward Tanner with landscaping completed by Hare and Hare.

To preserve the look of the estate, Crittall Corporate W20 range windows and doors were chosen during the restoration. They were hot dip galvanized after fabrication and coated with polyester powder in a standard matte color. Allart Berkeley handles, Cremone bolts, and sliding stays were chosen to complete the look. The Crittall Corporate W20 series offers great versatility that allows for customization in design, and the advanced weather-stripping system ensures excellent insulation for maximized energy efficiency. The manufacturer Crittall Windows, based in England with over 150 years of experience in steel window and door manufacturing was the perfect choice for duplicating the look of historical leaded casement windows.

According to Johnson County Museum, “the overall scheme is intended to convey a feeling of a large country estate.” The foundation is made of limestone, the walls are of brick, limestone, stucco, and wood, and the roof of slate. The L shaped, two story house partially wraps around the courtyard. To complete the country estate look, the property has an entry gate, a pergola, courtyard fountain, a stone tea house, and stone well.
